International Widows Day (June 23rd) is a day set aside by the United Nations (UN) to address the social, economic, cultural, and political issues that affect widows worldwide.
Each year RoSF joins the world to recognize this special day by organizing programs that bring together widows and stakeholders in government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and individuals, in a bid to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows and galvanize the unique support that they need.
This year, RoSF celebrated the day through an online program addressing the current realities of the post-COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable solutions for widows’ financial independence. Similarly, an advocacy walk was held on the eve (of 23rd June).
RoSF management, widows, media houses and other NGOs caring for widows in the state participated in the walk. The advocacy walk was wrapped up with a visit to the House of Assembly, Alausa- Lagos State where the team advocated for the Protection of Widowhood Rights in Lagos State.
